Jim O’Brien Jr is multi-instrumentalist, singer, composer, and producer hailing from Toronto, Canada. His work spans multiple genres and forms and he is known for a startling musicality and improvisational awareness, as well as a powerful emotive quality in his performances.
After years working as a sideman and songwriter in Toronto, Jim was signed to Atlantic Records UK in 2017 and released his solo debut EP The Dark Side to critical acclaim in 2018. The Kindness-produced follow-up single Is It The Right Time cemented his ability as a performer who can plumb emotional depths and also provide infectious rhythm in his songs. 2020’s Keys sees Jim alone at the piano. Recorded in London and mastered at the legendary Abbey Road, the 3-song EP showcases an intimacy and urgency rarely seen in today’s pop landscape. In 2021 the song Keep Me In The Dark by Black Saint, which was co-written by Jim and featured his lead vocal, racked up over 1 million streams on Spotify and was ranked #17 on Rolling Stone India’s top 100 songs of 2021.
